Chapter 2's Figure 9, a bar chart, presents the total number of admissions to publicly funded substance abuse treatment programs in the United States by age group using data from the 1997 Treatment Episode Data Set (TEDS). There were 1,479,203 admissions to treatment, with the highest number of admissions reported for the age groups between 15 and 44. Few admissions were reported in age groups 65 or older.
