Figure 3.5 is a U.S. map showing binge alcohol use in past month among persons aged 12 or older, by State: percentages, annual averages based on 2002 and 2003 NSDUHs. States listed here in alphabetical order within each group were divided into five groups based on the magnitude of their percentages. States in the highest group (25.52 to 31.37 percent) were Colorado, Iowa, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. States in the next highest group (24.01 to 25.51 percent) were Arizona, District of Columbia, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Vermont, and Wyoming. States in the mid group (21.75 to 24.00 percent) were Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Indiana, Louisiana, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Texas. States in the next lowest group (20.53 to 21.74 percent) were California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Nevada, New Jersey, and Washington. States in the lowest group (15.86 to 20.52 percent) were Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, and West Virginia.
